I posted earlier about this problem. I have checked a few things. My problem is that the foot pedal is so stiff under high speed that I cannot depress it to make it go where I want. I disconnected it at the top where it connects to the gear on top. the foot control is very easy to move up and down now. I checked the bearings and greased both in the top and the middle of the shaft. I cannot detect any freeplay side to side or up and down. The bearings seem to be okay. Can the cable be bad when it is connected to the gear on top, but move up and down easy when it is dissconnected? This has really got me puzzled. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. It is a 1996 12 volt Evinrude.

Re: Evinrude foot control trolling motor

Hi rh......a friend of mine with an older style OMC troller had the same problem. We changed out the steering cable and the problem went away. It was easy to steer with no power or at low power. But kick in the 24 and you had to stand on the pedal to steer. After replacing the cable, it was even easier to steer with no or low power.
