I have a 97 HP Evinrude that on my last trip would die on me. It would run as long as someone was squeezing bulb. Noticed fuel would run out of the air filter when squeezing bulb. Every since I have owned the boat seems to have a bit of problems starting but once it started ran fine.

Took engine to local shop to have fixed. They replaced bulb and clamps but once I got home noticed the bulb would still going soft. Was still a little hard to start but ran fine but only tested for 5 minutes or so.

I am reluctant to get it out on the lake knowing what happened last time. Is it normal for the bulb to going soft after a couple of minutes?

Re: Evinrude Fuel Bulb Going Soft

Hi Khon and welcome to the forum....

The inital priming with the bulb will cause the bulb to become hard or firm. Once running however, it will become soft since there is no pressure there because the engine is using the gas. As for the hard starting, could just need some adjustments. Your post says a 97hp Evinrude. I believe the year is 97' but what is the horsepower?
