I have an 82 Evinrude 90hp that dies soon after it warms up and can idle. Though it works fine in the driveway connected to a hose, on the ramp it dies. I discovered that the fuel bulb goes soft. Upon pumping it a few times it restarts only to die shortly thereafter.

Pump vs. air leak in the fuel line? How do you test for a bad pump?

Re: Evinrude fuel supply cuts out

I recently had the same symptoms; only I was trying to get back into the harbor at the time. The fuel bulb was kinked at the fuel tank end; and the bulb was sucked flat by the fuel pump, but I didn't find this out until I was safely in my berth. I've re-arranged the fuel hose so this doesn't happen again.

Had the same problem end of last year on an '87 Evin. 90horse. Would restart if bulb was pumped up. Within about an hour, the low/no oil alarm started going off at idle. VRO pump went bad, both the fuel and the oil sides.
