Just Purchased a boat and looking to find out for sure what we have for a motor.

Its an Evinrude 3 cyl 60 hp...
MODEL........ E60TLENE
SERIAL #..... G03100551

While checking the boards here, it seems ALOT of folks are eliminating the VRO and simply mixing 50-1. Are these motors prone to over oiling or are people doing this to be SURE it dDOES get oiled?

Also Ive seen mention of moving the telltale outlet to the top of the motor rather than leaving it in the stock lower location, and something about high output or heavy duty water pumps.Anybody care to share details on this...if it is recomended even?

Thanks for any and all info anybody can provide me with.
Mark

Looks like the motor is a 92 model. As far as the VRO, you will get a several diferent opinions. I've heard that some of the older Johnsons had some problems with the VRO. The newer models may do great. If you don't mind mixing your gas, I'd disconnect it. This way you'll always know the mixture is right and that you are getting oil. Recently I started to buy a late model 200hp Johnson. I had already made my mind up that one of the first things that I would do was disconnect the VRO. It's not (over oiling) that you really have to worry about. It's failure of the VRO and (no oiling) that is the problem.
I'm not sure about the telltail. I haven't heard much about this. Right now the only advantage I see to this is being able to see water coming from it easier. Unless some modifications have been made to the motor that would require this, I would leave it where it is.

Good luck :)
