Evinrude impeller replace 1985 15hp

CAN ANYONE TELL ME HOW I GO ABOUT CHANGING THE IMPELLER IN MY OLD 1985 EVINRUDE 15HP. Ei. should the motor be in neutral when removing lower unit? or do anything with the shifter rod? Thanks Ray

Great link. You can switch gears to whatever works best. The only comment I would add is to be very careful that the water tube goes back dead center of the water tube grommet on top of the water pump. If it doesn't it will cause an overheat and you'll have to do it over. Best of luck. Rick.
P.S. an 85 isn't an old Evinrude. It's just broke in.
