I've been running the motor with this flywheel #583339 which has a slight warp to it. I noticed the warp prior to my rebuild and it has been on my to do list for a while. It is slight probably 1/8 or so but did not effect starting so it got pushed back on the list.
I keep checking on ebay but the only one that keeps coming up has a different part number stamped underneath in the picture. Since it is 300 bucks I'm a little weary. Is there a comperable flywheel with a different part number? A new one is about $650 so I am willing to exhaust all options before going that route.
I've thought about marking the high spot and tapping it back straight but I don't want to make matters worse.

If it starts and runs ok leave it alone!!Sounds like you only bent the ring gear a little.flywheels and hammers don't get along.

I don't think I've ever seen a warped flywheel, how do you do that?

Not sure how it happened. I've always used a puller to remove the flywheel. Considering the condition of the engine when I bought it I wouldn't doubt that the previous owner wasn't a member of this forum. I bought the boat for the hull and rebuilding the drivetrain was a fun project.
It runs good most of the time but vibrates enough at high rpm to loosen adjustments to the carb linkage after about three trips. Honestly I'm not sure how much vibration is normal for these motors since it is the first one I've messed with.

You probably haven't had the motor since it was new, have you? Somewhere in it's past life, somebody has probably used a jaw type puller that grabs the outer diameter of the flywheel. That is an absolute no-no, and you see the result.

In addition to the vibration, it is dangerous. You don't even want to think about what can happen if it explodes. Bending it back only makes the danger worse. Flywheels are potential killers. I know a man that had one explode in his face. He lived, but was never looked the same afterward, nor could he barely speak. What is your life worth?

At wot , if you place your hand on the cowling, is it uncomfortable from vibration?
if it is then you'll be losing rpm too.
and soon the top crank bearing might be going out , imbalance and high rpm has to have an effect somewhere .
Have you tried looking for a complete outboard with a blown engine, $300 for one part is a bit pricey for me.

I definitely don't want to make it worse. And no I am not the original owner, actually the third I believe. My life is worth the 700ish bucks to be sure. I was just hoping, for once with this drivetrain, that a good used part might be available.
It has reached the point where I am second guessing my choice not to repower the hull. I'll take your advice FR and shut her down until I find a replacement. I'm out of sturgeon tags anyways.

I agree, and I am fanatical about anything that might be causing a loss of rpms. Especially since this jetdrive won't plane the hull if under 4500 rpm. There is currently no lateral slop in the bearing but I agree that damage could eventually occur somewhere and initially there. Not a cheap bearing to be sure.
On my setup the outboard motor is mounted inside an aluminum doghouse like an inboard. There is, or was, a fiberglass flywheel cover on the motor but it was cracked at the mounts and barely hanging on so I removed it.

Check the salvage yards as well, they were used on a lot of commercial crossflow motors so there should not be any shortage.

Check http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350291926061&ssPageName=STRK:

Here is a partial list for you to research. The good ones will give you a limited warranty.
