Hi everyone, recently acquired an evinrude jr and have it sold to a friend but want to make sure it is cooling properly. When running, it only spits a little water out of the 4 holes in the lower mid shaft. Is this all that should be coming out or should it be more , sort of like a pee stream(s)? It runs fine and only quits when it runs out of gas so I know it is not seizing but just want to make sure.... You know what they say about selling to friends......
Thanks, MG

After it's run for a few minutes, you should be able to touch the head and leave your finger there for a count of 3 with out getting burned. The operating temperature is between 140 and 180 degrees. they also make a "melt stick" and a laser sensor to use for testing temperature but you probably don't need that.

Thanks you very much for the info. I have a laser, didn't think to use that.

Actually, the cylinder head on those motors is only cooled around the outside edge. The exhaust plate is also not cooled. Those two areas get mighty hot. There is fire on the other side of them.

A bit of spray out the holes and the two mentioned hot areas are completely normal.
