evinrude lark 3

hello i have recently bought a little fletcher with a very old evinrude strapped to the back it is marked up as a lark 3 in nice gold script i know nothing at all about the engine and just wondered if anyone else did,age,power,parts availability etc.thanks

A lark III is a 1961 Evinrude 40 hp electric start engine. Most mechanical parts are available from either your local Johnson/Evinrude dealer or from sellers on eBay.

thank you for your reply Lark 40,wow its an old engine,is it worth while running an engine that old or should it be reliable if maintained properly?i dont want to end up drifting to ibiza.

They are reliable, and easy to fix. Huge numbers of them were sold and many are still operable. There are no modern electronics. The ignition is the same as a lawnmower, but it can still run even if running badly.<br /><br />They are rough at idle and not as fast as comparable Mercury engines. Also, they are thirsty compared to a new 2-stroke. Still, I have one (1960) and it has many more years left in it.<br /><br />Buy a repair manual at a local boat store and enjoy it.
