evinrude lower unit 1970 60hp - 65hp 72' same?

hello again everyone...it's been a while.<br /><br />i have recently purchased a boat w/a 70' evinrude (60hp). the lower unit is bad. i have access to a 72' 65hp lower unit. does anyone know if they are compatible???????? thanks ahead of time.<br /><br />mason

By the micro-fiche, they look compatible as both are electric shift, but the part numbers are different between the two years. But, superceded part numbers are very common between a year or two of production. Stand 'em side by each and compare the drive shaft length and spline pattern/size. I think its a very good possibility you've got a match.<br /><br />-John
