I have a 2001 40 hp. Fuel injected Evinrude outboard . 4 stroke EFI. 3 plugs etc. has been serviced with compression test etc. last Feb. 2009. It runs great in the winter with temps that are below 70 or 80. Runs great in the winter. But in the summer it won't start after running about 20 mins. However I left the cowling off last time out and it ran fine all day. April 30, 2009. When I first started out with the cowling on, I ran twenty mins. and fished for 1/2 hour. It wouldn't start until I did the neutral button thing. After I got it started I removed the cowling and it ran fine all day. So what is up? It runs fine in the winter when temps are cool.
This has been going on for a couple of yrs now.

Spark could be jumping to the metal latch on the engine cover, try a peice of rubber to insulate it, if that works then I'd look at the plug wires.
Maybe they are mis-routed too close?

...or it may be an exhaust leak.

Poor title, Jim. No clue what your question is and a Suzuki guru would be more likely to help you with your Suzuki-built outboard.

That said you clearly have a temperature sensitive part in there somewhere that won't work above some temperature.

To isolate it you will need to apply heat to that particular part and get it to fail. I suggest a hair dryer.

When you say it would not start, does it turn over and not start or is it just dead ???
