Hi all this is my first post here and I look forward to talking to everyone. Ok, just got back from fishing on the Potomac and came home and flushed the motor out. So, I notice some oil stain around the motor case handle and so I pop the top. I find a good bunch of oil on the bottom of the case. I wonder where it is coming from and I pop the air box off the carbs. I find that all the carbs have some oil coming out of the barrels and dripping into the air box. Is this bad? I am no boat mechanic, but I do build race cars and such and this strikes me as bad. The motor runs like a top and I have no complaints from it. I mean is will hole shot with the best of them. Starts up just fine and runs real strong. Well, I pulled the plugs and they are all so oil fouled that they are pitch black. I don't know how it is running or getting a spark. It doens't smoke at all either. The motor is a 2000 Evinrude Ficht 225. Please any help on this would be great.

Re: Evinrude Motor Plugs oil fouled

:confused:It sure would help if we knew what engine and what year we were talking about.

In general, fuel/oil dripping from the carb would indicate a stuck needle and seat valve, allowing too much gas/oil mix into the carb. It has to go somewhere, so it runs out of the carb. If the problem is fuel/oil fouled plugs, possibly the incorrect heat range, not staying hot enough to burn off the deposits.

Start by rebuilding carb, making sure that all passages and all jets are clean.
New needle and seat and float.

But let us know what engine and maybe you can get some specifics.
