I have an Evinrude Outboard marked 15014-10509.
What year is this, what horsepower, (15?) what spark plugs would it take, and what is the best place to get condenser & points?

it is 1955 15 hp. i have one on a 1966 14' Lone Star Commander. it's a great motor to restore, hard to kill. manuals are available @ kencook.com, also brpevinrude, some of the other guys here can help you more than me. edit your post , state whether it is running now and why you want to replace parts. the more you tell them the more help you get. they are great. popped the cover on mine my plugs are NDK B8S

I prefer the original Champion plugs in that engine. Champion J6C (replacing the old J6J) gapped at .030". Iboats sells condensors and points, along with NAPA autoparts and your local friendly(?) Johnson/Evinrude dealer, but I almost never buy them. I just clean up the points. As for the condensors, they're almost never a problem. The ignition coils on the other hand are often a source of problems. If they're cracked then replace them. Iboats, etc sells them as well cheap (~15-$20 each).

Re: evinrude need year & spark plugs

Wow, thanks for the quick replies, guys. I'm glad to know the year, I had thought myself it might be mid 50s. I got this motor from a guy who got it from a guy....you know. So I know little about it, except that from my initial looksee, it may only need tuning up to run. It had been stripped down to metal, I assume someone was getting ready to paint it, so I'll need to do that. Looks like it will be a nice motor to tinker with at any rate.
This seems like a great forum, glad I stumbled onto it!

If it hasn't run in a while, it's a good idea to change the water pump too...

(Often the simple things are the first forgotten)

I believe I will take the advice about the ignition coil before I replace points and condeser, that sounds right to me. New water pump sounds reasonable too. I got the NDK spark plugs too. Seems to me no spark is usually pretty easy to pin down, so I should have it running. Where I'll get the time.....oh that's a whole other topic.........
