I would choose the one that is the lowest price at auction end.<br /><br />Both were excellent engines when new and are nearly the same engine.<br /><br />Good luck. :)

Looks like the 'Rude is missing it's lower cowls, but apparently runs well. If I were purchasing the Johnson, I would assume I would have to sink at least about $100 into it for parts (ignition, carb kit, pump kit) - I guess that would be more like $70 to you folks. Then about $60 for manual and tools. Looks like it's in great shape although it clearly doesn't run since no mention is made of it.<br />I guess it depends on how mechanically inclined you are, and how much you like tinkering on old engines.<br /><br />EDIT: I just noticed he claims to have replaced the coils. Knock $40 off the parts estimate.

Both motors are almost identical and parts switch. Those evinrude cowl cheeks are expensive compared to other parts and not so easy to find. I'd go for the Johnson. It has new coils too.
