Sounds like someone was monkeying with the carburetor before you got the motor. The easiest thing might well be to find another carburetor for it...a used one.

Try searching for Twin Cities Outboard on Google, then give them a call. They'll have one for you.

Also, check some of the OMC dealers in your area...they may have a junk 9.5 in their pile. In any case, get a carb kit and rebuild it after you buy it. You'll be on the water soon.

Re: evinrude outboard carb nightmare

Hey,Guys thanks for the advise.I will check things out for carb bowl.i have since installed carb kit.Had to get one from back east though.High speed orifice inlet not out of shape someone had broke screwdriver slots offi think it will work until i locate new bowl.Have everything back together.went back to square one on set up for points and carb adjustment.Motor running good.starts on first pull. waiting to get the lake to fine tune carb adjustment.what was really wierd was i had removed reeds to install a new gasket on intake and check reeds for clearances.Found a small piece wood in the vaccum port at fuel pump inlet.Looked like it had been in there a long time.not sure why or how it got in there.Chinewalker i will drop you a lne after trip tp lake if i have any flooding problems or high speed fuel problems.thanks for the help.THIS MOTOR HAVE BEEN A REAL HOOT TO WORK ON.
