Hi Guys,
I have an old Evinrude pressurized fuel tank that is leaking badly at the fuel connector to the motor. The Seloc manual says to replace the O-rings in the connector, but doesn't explain how to do so. I can see that the O-rings are dry rotted, but I don't see anyway to disassemble the connector to replace them. Also, are these O-rings a common item that would be available at any Johnson/Evinrude Dealer??? As usual, your comments are appreciated.

Hi Trailbum
I personally have never changed one of these, but I,ve talked to several people that did. It seems that all you have to do is to pick the old one out, kinda wad up the new ones and force it in. The marina that I used to work at carried them in stock.

Howdy, Trailbum. You really ought to replace those "O" rings every year or so, and carry spares with you.

As to getting the old one out: A medium crochet hook works just fine.

Red sky at night. . .
JB :)

Hi Trailbum
To replace those o-rings you will need a long skinny punch. They are a little hard to find. You can make one or make one fit. Any way place this punch in the hose end and tap out the brass plugs, springs and plunger. Some older shops have a little jig for holding the connector and catching the innerds. You can also make a jig useing a block of wood. Place connector face down on the block, trace the face. Drill two holes a little larger than those brass plugs (o-ring holders). should look like a double barrel shot gun. Place four small finish nails around the top for alinment of your connector over the holes. Next to this drill two more small holes to fit the hose barbs. These are for reassembly. The o-rings might be a little though to find also as they are a special size but they can be had. I hope this helps its real easy to do once you see it done.

Thanks for the replies, sounds pretty easy. I have the original 1956 part number for the O-rings, just need to obtain a half dozen or so. The Seloc manual also states that these should be replaced regularly. Thanks again!! :)
