I have a 1980 Evinrude 85hp v-4 ---Yesterday I had to put in a new ign. switch--The switch seems to be working, however The problem I am having is that The 20 amp fuse keeps blowing when I try to start it, the motor starts cranking then it stops, "hence the blown fuse"--I do not know if the problem is related to me installing the new switch and by maybe having the wires hooked up wrong--Can anyone tell me if that is possible?--If so, can you tell me which wires go where on the switch? --Thanks so much for your help!--Dave Shipos

I had the same exact problem on my 84 johnson 90 hp vro, there was a bare wire in the control box. There was a wire wore through where the bolts go through the box to mount to the boat on the inside of the box, repaired and no more blown fuses!
