I recently purchased a 1971 60hp Evinrude with the electric shift. All seems to work well after a little TLC, but I noticed in the front of the "selectric" control head there was what was left of a round plastic peice with 2 wire going to it.
The wires were tapes of. I wish I could tell you more but litterally thats all there was. This "switch mounts at the front of the panel. Any Idea what this is supposed to be and does it need to be replaced?
Thanks

May be too little, too late, but I believe it sounds like the location of the overheating alarm.
