Evinrude shift solenoid question

Hello everyone,

Does anyone know if both shift solenoids on the electric shift models of the early 70's Evinrude 60hp are the same? In looking at my solenoids, the only difference seems that one has a blue wire and the other one has a green wire. They seem identical otherwise.

I found a place where I can get the lower shift solenoid with the blue wire for $40. The upper solenoid with the green wire are costing upwards of $130-$150. If they're the same, I could get 2 of the lower units at considerable savings. Who cares if the wires are a different color, as long as I know which one is which at the main cable.

Anyone have a clue here?
Thanks

PS. I've posted this question before but didn't get an answer so excuse the duplicates.

I really don't know the answer, but I suspect they might be the same. Obviously, the plungers are different.

Do you really have two confirmed bad solenoids? Any idea what happened to them? Just wondering.

Yes, stuff is oozing out of the top one. Must be the insulation, and the fuse blows whenever I engage these solenoids.

Re: Evinrude shift solenoid question

You might want to grab a spare lower solenoid if the seller has enough of them. They are NLA items and shop.evinrude.com doesn't even list a part number for them any more.
