Evinrude Sporster....help!

I have an old Evinrude Sportster 2 cylinder with no number plates. I was told to look for the quarter size "plug" with a number on it. I found what I think is this plug....has the number J2435836 on it. I need year, availabilty of manual and parts, and whether it is worth the bother to repair...looks like power head has had a rebuild...a few small parts missing. Thanks.

bassrich <br /><br />Sorry for not getting back to you on the other post. That is a serial number and we would still need the model number to verify the year. No other numbers or letters on the plug?? Was this plug in the powerhead?

Yes...this was in the powerhead....can't find any other numbers.....I'm going to take it to an outboard place near here.....supposedly an expert on older stuff there. Thanks anyway.
