evinrude stator problems?

1975 Evinrude 75 hp 3 cylinder engine. When you first try to plane up under a load at the very high end of the throttle it will develop a shake. If you climb slowly, it will go all the way to full throttle. I have replaced the power pack, and the rectifier, and the coils. I have been researching for a while now, because the only two parts of the ignition system I haven't replaced at this point are the stator and the base timer. It seems like maybe this is a weak stator problem. Like the volatage is too low and the motor falls out of time/loses a piston on the very high end of the acceleration.

I tested the stator for ohm resistance (I don't have a dva meter, I know, its much more accurate) and it tests at 630 ohms. According to CDI electronics it should test between 450-600 ohms. Not much difference. But with the way it's acting, I didn't expect to find a huge, glaring problem.

My question is could this be caused by a weak stator? I have even had this motor looked at by my local marina, and they couldn't reproduce the shake in a test tank. It has to be in the lake, under a load, somebody in the boat, going from a dead still to full open throttle. The whole fuel system is completely new, carbs, lines, pump, everything.

This is a real head scratcher, and I would greatly appreciate any comments or advice. I just want to know if this is a potential problem caused by the stator before I buy a 200 dollar stator.

Re: evinrude stator problems?

The only way I know of to solve this prob is to have a " Good Mechanic" in the boat with you and simulate the problem you have. He may be able to find it then. No sense in just throwing parts at it. Not all probs can be found in a test tank. Been there.

Re: evinrude stator problems?

that's the problem, the one's I took it to are the "good" mechanics. No one I know of in this city tests with dva meters. there are actually about 4 marinas here, one is a Honda marine, Suzuki marina, and a power sports which services everything of that matter like atvs. There is no "real" boat mechanic here. If these guys' computers can't tell them what's wrong from a code given by the engines, then as far as they know the motor's fine.

But it isn't fine. I am not going to give another marina more of my money (the last bill was 200 bucks) just to get a "I don't know?" At that point I would be money ahead just to buy the stator and if it doesn't fix it well, then, I got a new stator. I just thought before I bought it that maybe somebody's been in the same situation as I have and maybe they could tell me what they did. I mean, if nothing else, at least tell me if it is common or not for a stator to go out on an evinrude or if it is a once in a blue moon thing.

I can't be the ONLY one to run into this problem. Advice, please, anyone
