I have a 1975 evinrude 25 hp outboard w/electric start that I am looking to have some help in wiring the switch. I replaced my keyswitch with a new choke in switch type switch. I now turn the key to start. Works great, push to choke, Works great, Turn off the switch, motor stays running. I am assuming that I need to ground the switch out some how. I need help on which lead should I use to ground the switch out when the key is turned off.

these are the wires that I have with my harness.

red=choke
white=solenoid
black x2, to coil
green,battery

Re: evinrude switch wiring

The wire you are searching for is the black/yellow. It kills the engine to ground.

Been there; done that.

Re: evinrude switch wiring

On the original switch the black and the black/yellow wires were on the poles marked "M" . When your switch was in off position it connected these 2 so that the motor shut down. If you do not have those terminals on the new switch you may have to setup another switch as a kill switch.
