Hello, I have a 60hp evinrude that needs a trim tab. Thus far, I haven't had any luck searching the internet for a Evinrude website simliar to Mercury at http://www.mercurypartsexpress.com/us/. This one allows me to pull up engine diagrams and parts listing by serial number or year make model. Does a website like this exist for Evinrude? If so please share it with me.

Thanks.

Do you have your terminology right? I've never heard of a motor with a trim tab. Boats have trim tabs mounted on the transoms. Are you talking about the tilt/trim? Or maybe a "whales tail" that bolts to the cavitation plate? Need better info please.

The poster's info was exactly correct and I would suggest that others familiarize themselves with their motors better before steering another person in the wrong direction.

Just post the year/model number of your motor and I will give you the part number.

For the others suggesting that a motor does not have a trim tab:

If you look on the bottom of your cavitation plate you will see a descending metal fin with a bolt through the middle of it that can be adjusted side to side, this is your trim tab for your motor.

I guess I stand properly chastised six, I had always heard it referd to as a fin, not a tab.

No you were not chastised, if I was chastising I would have said, learn what the $%&* you are talking about, I politely suggested to familiarize yourselves with the motors. No big deal

One of the first things I learned about this forum was to be sure you are accurate, otherwise other people may not find the help they need, or may actually so something that could damage their motor or injure themselves. In this case injury or damage wouldn't have occurred but the poster would have been left thinking they don't have a chance to find a part they need.

Thanks for offering but there's no need for you to go that much effort for me. I can get it myself now thanks to this site.

Trim Tab can be adjusted to compensate for the directional torque caused by the prop. Helps the boat go straight and steering ease, in either direction.

It helps compensate for the fact that a spinning prop isn't pushing straight forward but more in an arc like fashion. If your boat pulls to one side because of this, adjusting the tab can help.

Re: evinrude that needs a trim tab

The trim tab has nothing to do with the prop, a crankshaft spinning clockwise will always try and spin the block (read motor) counter clockwise.
A counter rotating gearbox/prop motor will still try & turn opposite to the crankshaft direction.
Put your car in gear with your foot on the brake give it some gas and you will see the engine try & spin inside the engine bay then try it in reverse gear.
