Hey gang...I'm baaaack!!!
My 'Rude is at it again.....no spark. Is there anything peculiar on 'Rudes, regarding spark that I need to know about? Mine is a '74 85 hp (85493-b). It's got (I believe) capacitor discharge igniton. I have one coil for each plug. I don't think I have points. I've had the flywheel off to inspect the stator/coil charge assembly but realized I don't know how to test the assembly nor what to look for (volts, ohms) anyway. So my conundrum is....why no spark? Plugs are new, gapped properly, plenty of fuel available (no flooding). Plugs are wet from cranking so I know the cylinders are getting fuel. If I let the plug wires sit on the plug just enuf to make contact, and crank the motor over, no spark anywhere on either of the 4 cyls.. Battery is fully charged and tested good. Any ideas?? How do I test the coils for proper resistance? Ohh...and one more thing...I found a used '74 85hp engine block, same as mine, in fact identical for short $$. Documented 275 original hours. Motor was parted out due to rusted engine chassis and lower unit damage. What gets me is...the motor is gold in color. My engine is such a dark blue it looks like it's black. The paint peeling off my block is very dark blue as is the rest of the motor and chassis. Was gold the original color? I ask cuz the paint UNDER my peeling paint is actually goldish. Anyway, if anyone can help me with my "no spark" issue, I'd appreciate it. Thanks alot.
Chris
