I have read on this forum about the casting seam water leak into the no. 1 cylinder inherit in the Evinrude and Johnson 150 HP 60 degree V6 motors. I suspect my 92 Evinrude 150 may have this problem. The no. 1 plug and top of piston are clean compared to the other 5, although compression on all cylinders are in the 105-110 psi range. What year motors are affected? Does the welding of this seam hold up? Any way to confirm leak other than complete tear down?

First of all dont jump to conclusions. While its true some of those motors will leak at the glue seam not all do. You did not mention finding water droplets only a "clean" plug and piston. If you dont have spark on that cylinder it may be washed clean from fuel.

If you do find water it most likely is the glue seam leak. The powerhead can be pressure checked to verify. Im sure many folks have figured out how to do the repairs successfully but I know the folks at Precision Manufacturing have figured it out. You can call them at 800-237-5947 and talk to Tom.

Good luck!
