Evinrude What year and how to disconnect shift rod

I am a new user. If I make a mistake please correct me. I have an Evinrude 85 Model no. 85593E. I have three questions. 1. What year? 2.How do you disconnect the shift rod to remove the lower unit? 3. If it overheated enough to discoler the paint on the heads is the engine ruined? Thanks

bprewett,<br />Welcome to the forum.<br />Motor is a 1975. Evinrude <br />Need to find out why it overheated and why your alarm did not function. You may have done some damage to your motor if it ran that hot.<br />There are numerous tests you can perform to determine this however I would suggest you obtain a manual before attempting to troubleshoot your motor. Try a library or you can order 1 from the link at the top and bottom of this website. Manuals <br />The manual will explain how to disconnect shifter. Some motors are disconnected inside the cowling, while others have an access panel in the side of the case.<br />Post back and let us know how we can help but a manual is a neccessity.
