Hi, motor is running now but it doesn’t idle when I try to idle it will shutoff and it looks like to much fuel is going to the carburetors but other than that motor runs extremely well.
Any advice on why the motor doesn’t idle? Another thing, this motor come with an electric prime, the electric prime pump has a RED knob on top, That knob can be move left or right, does any one know what is the write position for that knob?
Thanks
1986 evinrude 90HP Model: E90TLCDC

Re: evinrude won't idle

You said it was getting too much fuel. If you're right it is either a maladjusted idle mixture or a stuck open carb float valve. Does choking it help or hurt the idle. If it hurts it is getting too much fuel if it helps it is getting too little. Either way the problem is in the carbs.

Re: evinrude won't idle

Hi, I have the prime pump in the write setting now is working well, now the motor Idles very good. The problem that I have now is when I go for full throttle the motor needs more fuel to runs ok, what I did was in full throttle press the primer for 5 seconds and it runs really good, if I go down to idle and full throttle again I have to press the prime for 5 seconds and it will runs very good like that, so I thing in full throttle it needs more fuel to run properly, Any Idea or advise on why this is happening? I can run like that all day and motor respond fine. I will really appreciate any help or advice.
Thank you

Eula..... As Jimd has stated, the problem is in the carbs. The carbs are fouled which is resulting in having the fuel restricted. The cure is to remove, clean, and rebuild the carbs. Do not overlook the four (2ea carb) fixed brass high speed jets that are located in the bottom center area of the float chambers.

Re: evinrude won't idle

I forget to mention that when the boat is on full Throttle the boat goes straight but I have to seat every body to the right side because the boat on full throttle one side is higher that the other side. Is like if all the weight is on one side of the boat but it wasn’t, Any Help on why is doing that? My boat is a center console. Thank you

PS: Tank’s guys for all your help on getting this motor running, I will be working on the carbs and let you know how it goes.
Tanks

If the boat is tilting like that a high speed you definetely have a weight problem. You have to try to even the weight out or you can invest in trim tabs or a fin for your engine may help a little.
