1978 115 evinrude has fire at all cylinders, new gas, spark plugs, and gas lines. backfires while trying to start and if it does start, it runs like crap and dies. It ran fine 3 weeks ago, then we had a few warm days and i took it to the lake and started this. Ive tried all I know to do. Hope you guys can help me. Thanks in advance!

Maybe pull the flywheel and see if the key has come loose/out and the timing is out...

yeah 100 ft/lbs I forgot to mention that I had gas coming from carbs when I have been trying to start it. usually after I've had the choke on. where is this link and sync search at?

sounds like you got a possible carb problem..try pumping the gas buld and see if gas runs out of any of the carbs,,tilt motor up some when you do the test..secret files section at top of forum.

A couple of ignition comments. It is very possible you have some ignition wires crossed. When you replace a power pack, the coil wires are color coded to each plug. It is very easy to get the wrong power pack leads connected to both coils on one side of the engine. Backfires for sure. Double check that and make sure the coil wires are connected to the correct plugs. Possible you may have some arcing from the lower spark plug wires to the cowling latches. This shows up esp at night with the cowling off and is more likely on older wires.

Thanks guys I cleaned both carbs and it help alot, but now the motor won't go past 2800 wot. I've got new fuel lines, so all connections are fine. When I pump the bulb it stays hard so no leaks or lost of pressure. I've moved the quick disconnect around with nothing changing the way the motor runs. So what to do next? thanks

Still sounds like the flywheel key may be sheared, or the timer base is sticking under the flywheel so when you push the throttle forward, the spring on the throttle lever on the side of the motor isn't advancing the timer base enough at higher revs...

may be a bad fuel pump...disconnect fuel pump hose on carb side, pump bulb till fuel comes out, turn engine over you should get nice spurts of fuel. could still be carb issues also. you need to do a compression and spark check to rule them out.

Have a friend constantly prime the fuel hose bulb while you are at max throttle. This will force extra fuel into the carb bowls. If the engine picks up and runs full rpm while you constantly prime the bulb, you may have a weak fuel pump.
