Ihave two 70 hp 1998 Evinrudes of a cat hull. They are used on salt water all the time and sit on a lift over salt water. They keep freezing up, I try to put corrosion guard on turn shaft, run in and out, then clean and repeat. But this time I didn'do it soon enough and now one motor is frozen and I cann't turn. Any short term and long term help??? Bob clock1@comcast.net

Re: Evinrude won't turn

old bob,Try backing off on the plastic wiper nut where steering rod enters bracket and squirting some pentetrating oil around shaft. While someone is gently manipulating steering wheel try shocking the steering rod with a hammer and piece of wood to see if it will break loose. These things can be a pain.I've got to watch mine close as well as I use exclusively in salt water also.Don't force wheel too hard to avoid stripping gears in steering box.
