evinrude 40hp.. year... 70's?? i cant seem to find marking to ID the motor..inside bonnete..is at locklatch 316026 thanks ...jon

Jon...have looked for the large freeze plug on the engine block? It'll have the model number on there. No plate with model and serial number on the transom bracket?

May be on the top of the bracket, between the two transom clamps if it's an early 70s on. Might be some muck covering it up.
