Evinrude year?

I have a 40 HP Evinrude Lark 6 Selectric Shift.<br />Model #40472s<br />Serial #c398857<br />1)Can you tell me what year it is.<br />2)I can't get any speed when Throttle is fully open, What is the likely cause?<br />Carburator? Fuel Pump?<br />I have a leaking lower unit which still needs to be repaired. Could this be the cause?<br />Thanks for any help.

Howdy Phillip....wlcome to iboats...<br /><br />Yer 40 is a 1964.<br /><br />No throttle up usually means a carb problem. If ya don't know how long it's been since the carb has been over hauled or if there is still a black gasket between the float bowl and carb body, overhaul is a good thing to do.<br /><br />Wouldn't think water in the lower unit is the bad guy unless it's bee there a LONG time. But...if you are getting water into the lower unit, get it fixed. There is no place in the lower unit for water.<br /><br />Hope we have helped.
