i have a 50 hp evinrude starflite, model 50519, serial 03349. does anyone know the year of this beast? it's on a '59 glaspar avalon 16'. also, i can't get it to idle down to trolling speed without running really rough.

the site that tells me the year is screwed up right now. But I can tell you what is wrong with the idle, the carb has to be cleaned out! and the idle screws set to the correct possition.<br /><br />8/100

deltaboy,You have a 1959 model 50 hp .Perfect match to your boat.<br /> Try removing and cleaning ports on carburetors.Also inspect and regap or replace spark plugs.I believe the recommended oil mix ratio was 24:1 on your motor .

deltaboy <br />have you done the sync and link on it? if not it need to be checked. the low speed jets set at 1.5 turns out, the high speed jets at 3/8 turn out. this is a good sterting point. set points at .020 with someone you trust with your life, on the water set the low speed jets to best idle, at WOT set high speed jets for best high end, I find the you then need to reset the low speed jets again. Evinrude recomends that you use WOT to get on plane the back out to 3/4 throtle to run. About 3 or 4 mph less than WOT, but when you do the sync and link, you'll see that the carb starts to open at 3/4 throtle! If you do not have and cannot find a manual I can post some pages for you to download.<br />Richard

Hey thanks all,<br />i'm cleanin the carbs today, takin her out this weekend. i just got a new fishfinder with mph, so i'll have a better way to judge. i still have the old one that came with the boat. it's huge, and i have no idea how to make sense of it. old eagle. anyway thanks again.
