Was out on the lake to and was running fine then lost power. I have an 89 Evinrude 88 spl. On the the way back to the dock it felt like it wanted to gain the power back. I started to pull the plug wires one at a time to check for stalling. Only on two of the wires would it stall. Its still starts right up. Also I noticed that the tach would intermitinly stop working. I know I didn't over rev the engine. But could electrial problem cause a lose of power or am I looking at pistons and rings?

Howdy, WD.

If the two cylinders that did not cause a stall are in the same bank (side) you have a powerpack proble. If they are side by side, you have a carb problem.

Good luck. :)

JB,
Yes they are the same side. How can I test the powerpack. Is it hard to change and are they expensive? Thanks.

Also, will that cause the tach to stop working?

An easy check would be switching the pack with the other side and seeing if dead cylinders move.

BK is correct. Yes, some earlier posts had their tach stop working when they had a spark problem.
