Keep seeing references to E-Tech on Evinrude outboards. What is E-Tech technology/design?

Just wondering,

Mark.

BRP; not OMC....

Have you been to their website? The last time I checked they had quite an in-depth explanation of why they think that they are making the best outboard out there.

A bunch of high-tech electronics bolted onto a highly engineered 2-stroke block. Pretty impressive what they've been able to accomplish. It's going to be the test of time that will determine just how good they are.

E-tec is the name that BRP (Bombardier Recreational Products) has given to their line of direct fuel injected 2-stroke outboards.

The e-tec technology traces its roots back to Ficht. Ficht is a company that developed the direct injection technology that OMC first started using in 1997.

OMC eventually bought the Ficht company and as the record goes it is one of many things that ultimately led to the demise of OMC.

When Bombardier bought the Evinrude and Johnson brands in 2001 they continued to use the Ficht technology in the Evinrude line. To help shake the bad reputation of the Ficht name Bombardier rebadged the motors as simply Direct Injection.

E-tec is the latest generation of the direct fuel injection system that Evinrudes are using. The sytem has similarities to the ficht technology...although there have been significanct improvements.

BRP has also adapted the system to some of their Ski-Doo snowmobiles.

Based on pretty much all accounts, the E-tec motors live up to the hype.

My dad bought a 60hp Etec last year brand new and it's a nice piece of machinery.

The best things about it are computer-regulated fuel/oil injection which makes it very efficient(The European Union even gave it an award for being environmentally friendly since they run clean).

It also does not need any maint for the first two years. The tech at the dealer hooks it up to a computer and presses the "winterize" button and it fogs itself.

It's on a 16' aluminum boat and that thing leaps out of the water with 3 guys in it. I want one cause my old Merc guzzles fuel in comparison:D
