I just put this rebuilt motor in the boat. It is a Mercruiser 260. One side exaust pipe from the engine manifold boot down gets very hot. the other side is warm or normal. If I restrict the flow to the cooler side with vicegrips on the water line it will cool the hot side down so both sides feel the same. Have any of you come across this problem before? Should I put in a some kind of restriction in that hose?

Ayuh,... Did ya pull the riser off the manifold, 'n look for the restriction,..??

Yes, I agree. Pull off the exhaust manifold elbow, riser and manifold and find the restriction. Try back flushing the cooling system prior and see if that helps the situation.

I'm on board with the above. My 228 had such a restriction in the exhaust elbow that it was overheating and I actually blew a manifold water hose while running WOT, trying to blow the restriction out.

Hold up guys, one thing that was not mentioned were you on muffs or in the water? Because I have a 350 as well, and on the muffs one side will get hot, well hotter than the other to the point where if you lean on it does get uncomfortable. However in the water all is fine, neither one of my manifolds get hot at all. On my boat it is the Starboard side that gets warm. So please let us know how you were running it before you start tearing it down.

It is the starboard side and I have it in a tank with fresh water pumping through it. I did take all the hoses off for that manifold and put the tap water hose in one and pluged the other two hoses and water flowed through the y pipe. Did that to all hoses. I will take it out on the water to see if it works there. Thanks.
