Yes go to any parts store and buy the little felt washers that go under the battery terminals.
They come in red and green and work very well.

In the old days we use to place a copper penny on top of the battery and it would keep the corrosion off the terminals.

baking soda and water or soda pop (ok coke) will get rid of the the white stuff (don't get it inside the battery) the a little oil on the infected area/s. works for me!

I clean the terminals with baking soda and water then spray the terminals with a product from NAPA called battery terminal protector. It is a red looking material on the terminals and does a good job of keeping the build-up down.

Okay ,correct me if I'm wrong here but.....The corrosion comes from electrical current flowing through two different types of metal (of different quality) calling it "electrolysis" .One method is vasoline to trap out oxygen which triggers it.

Many terminals are Lead... Same as the battery posts....
And I rarely see the problem on the Wire, it's always the clamp......
I think it has to do with the Gases given off by the charging of the battery...............
Vasoline would be fine......
But I Usually have a Greasegun in my hand, when I'm around the Boat, Truck, Etc..........

Re: Excessive corrosion on Truck battery cables

Since the positive battery post has a lack of, or shortage of electrons, free electrons present in the impurities in the air are attracted to it. These electrons bring garbage with them when the collect on the positive terminal. Thats why the negative post displays no corrosion. For this reason, vehicles equipt with positive ground electrical systems have less corrosion on the critical areas such as contacts and switch. The corrosion gathers on the frame instead, where it doesn't hinder the electrical system.
By sealing off the positive post with any non-conductive grease, you simply seal the post from exposure to these attracted electrons and the impurities they drag with them. . .
