Will be replacing the U joint, shift, and exhaust bellows in my 89 mercuiser I/O 3.0 liter

There is currently an exhaust tube installed on it. Is it better to replace it with the same, or, replace it with a bellows?

What is the difference performance - wise?

3.0... i dont think you are going to feel any difference in "performance."

I have heard that the tube is for the diy-ers and the bellows is the correct way. I have personally never installed either. But both seem to function... i don't know which way i will go when it comes time for me to change mine.

They both work just fine. The tube ends up sounding a little bit louder, but it's also much easier to install. Absolutely no difference in performance.

Not only is there no performance difference, you certainly do not need to replace it as a maintenance item. The other bellows, yes, the tube no.
