Someone was telling me that Mercruiser makes a block off plate where the "Y" pipe bolts on, for converting to thru hull exhaust. Anyone know what the Merc part # is or if they are even available?

I haven't seen any for Your Drive,.....
I'm not sure if it's the Same as the Alphas.....

I made my own out of a pc. of 1/4" Aluminum Plate,....
I used the face of the Y pipe as a pattern,+ cut it out,+ drilled it.......
It only takes a little 4" X 4" pc..... Maybe even a little smaller.....

Thanks Bondo,

Looks like I might have to make one also. I'm still not sure if I want to go with thru hull exhaust. Found a resonable price on some Livorsi tips, but keep hearing the stories of how it sounded great for the first few weeks, but got kinda old after a while. It's a shame I can't bring myself to part with $500 for one of the switchable systems...

"K", IMHO.....Leave it alone....I have the same set up......We're talking 188 hp here!... ;) I say don't make a ricer out of it.... :p :p .... If you must do this thing, couldn't you just remove the exhaust boots and cap the "Y"? Then you would leave your options open, if you wanted to go back to your original configuration, & you wouldn't have to pull the engine......Save the money to put towards a 351, if you are looking for increased performance......Again, IMHO.. ;) ...JK

JK, c'mon... A 302 wouldn't sound like a ricer..... Would it? I may go the 351 route if this one gives up the ghost. I wasn't really looking for increased performance (not much more left in the 188hp or me for that matter)just throaty sound. You know, the kind that gets girls in their 20's to actually look at a guy in his 40's.... That does work doesn't it???

Ya, sure ...you betcha! :D :D :) What do you think about just capping them off? If you were in salt, might not do it ....But fresh?......+ you will have to pull the engine, no?.....Sounds like too much work for little/no hp.... :) ..JK

Too much work...Funny..lol
21' Larson Commander

I probably wouldn't have room to connect to the thru hulls if I cap the "Y" pipe without buying new risers. If I decide that the noise level is too loud, it's just a weekend job to pull the engine and replace the pipe. Anyone out there have a used "Captians Call' or switchable system? I've got the engine in my garage right now. Just finished it.

Looking at your boat,.....
I can see where you might run into some Issues with the Swim Platform........

It's all in the plumbing,+ Clearance issues...........
My next boat is having the pipes exit Real Low on the transom,.....I'll get all the drop, back inside the boat......

Cool setup Bondo. I had thru prop for the first 20 years I boated and thought that thru the transom was stupid and kinda rude. I now have straight thru with no baffles on a 6.2 MPI and I love it. I'd like to have selectable too, but it doesn't get old. Most of the noise sounds pretty sweet and it is behind you. Friends say that it is not too annoying to boat near me either :)

Apparently the 6.2 meets some noise limits too as I passed at Lake Havasu where they check now when you launch. They have you just idle it after allowing you to warm it up for 30 seconds or so and point a radar gun looking thing at it. Stock big blocks can't pass with a typical thru transom install.

Ayuh,....

NY started Checking a few years ago,.... They busted a few of the Big poker run boats up on the river,.....

At about that time,.... I was just Sick of the Rumbling while Trolling 12/18hrs aday,.....
I had cut the pipe at a 45* angle,+ the only way to get the ends of the pipes Underwater was to weld the drop pc.s back on,.... Straight Down,.......
Looked Stupid,.. But was Quiet....... Kinda like Now........

I've since found more SSteel pipe,+ made the bends at 22.5*,.... They dump right at the inner corners of the tabs,+ Really sound Cool..... They're still Inside the stern wake,.. So sound isn't tooo much of an Issue........

1 of the Boat Cops knows me,+ Always has a Comment about My Pipes,....... I've offered to Build Him a set....... :D
