exhaust elbow gasket ?? 1987 5.7

Last year i installed new after market manifolds and elbows and the elbow gaskets that came with them had 2 open holes for water flow and 2 pin holes (restriction holes). On the old manifold elbow gaskets all 4 were open. I have a small leak on one of the elbow gaskets and im just going to change both (the elbow gaskets were the green paper type) Looking at the manual in Don's stickey they show both types.. but im just confused why there is 2 types and what would be better for my system restricted or not?. Any insight would be great.
