Exhaust flappers

Checking a few items on the boat before launch time comes around and noticed one of the exhaust flappers was missing. She's an 88 Sunrunner,Merc Alpha 1 I/O .They are the internal rubber type and are part of the stainless tip, held by a vertical centre pin.The tips are cut down and in at an angle toward the transom so i can't attach the new style flaps with a hose clamp, therefor i guess i'll replace the old ones.
Looks like i'll have to remove the 4" rubber flex hose from the tip inside the engine compartment to get at the pin for the flap.
My question is: What is the easiest way to remove the rubber flex hose? They are hose clamped on.
And what type of sealant do i use when i put it back on ?
I'll attach a few photo's to show more detail.

Thanks

Re: Exhaust flappers

Just loosen the hose clamps and pull the hose off. It may be a little tough and stuck from age but a little working should get them right off. As far as putting them back, just clean up the pipe and the hose mating surfaces and hose clamp it back on. No sealant needed. Also, I can't say for sure, but I'd wager that you can't find that exact style of flapper anymore. The replacement works just as well. It's the same concept, but instead of the pin it holds in place a little differently.

Re: Exhaust flappers

I guess it depends on what size you need. My system has the butteryfly style but I was told it was changed to a different style for my model. The new style can be seen here:

I had to eventually talk to a service tech to get the right part either here at iboats or go2marine.com...can't remember.

Re: Exhaust flappers

Looked at your link for the 9-42802 replacement for oem, almost looks oval not sure if it's the angle of view or what.
I've tracked down quit a few replacements for my oem which i believe is 410-280173.
I see that Sierra or Mallory is available from this site at decent price and ship to Canada.

Will checkout go2marine but am looking for a Canadian source or something in Ontario.Brokerage fees at the border are quite high.

Thanks again jam1ej20
