exhaust fumes

I have a 1994 force 120 hp.<br />I discovered that exhaust/ smoke accumulates under the engine cover which causes the engine to stall at idle or slow speeds...if i leave the cover off it runs great.....So my question is..where are these fumes coming from?..why isnt it exhausting properly?..Thanks for any input

The exhaust is leaking. There is a small rubber hose on the rear of the motor and probably has rotted. You will need to get some new water ehaust hose and replace it. <br /><br />If your real lucky it might just be a loose hose clamp try this first.

Holy.....now that was a quick response...thanks for the tip..i will check it out...i hope it is as easy as that and not a huge $$$$$ internal problem...
