Exhaust in my Engine Cover

Seems like after I warm up, I get enough exhaust coming into the engine cover to make the motor run a bit rough. It's a 8 HP 2 stroke yachttwin, 1995.

I have a new fuel mixture and am running some cheap walmart oil. Should I be using better oil? Maybe a carb rebuild?

Thanks!

Does run properly with the cowel off? Might have a blown power head gasket.

Definetly seems possible since the exhaust seems to be coming in from around the plastic cowling that the engine cover sits on. Usually does not happen until the engine block warms up. I will give it a try.

Thanks!

Gotta ask--are you running it in a barrel? They will always smother on their own smoke if you do. Stick your head down in there and you will see why.

Re: Exhaust in my Engine Cover

If I run it in a barrel I usually hav ethe engibe cover off. If I run it out on the water, the engine cover is on and I have the misfiring or running rich problem. I think it is from the exhaust coming up from the power head area where it bolts to the leg.

I removed the power hear and now have to figure out how to get the broken water tube out of the leg!

Any ideas?

Was definetly a blown power head gasket. replced both gaskets on the adapter plate and a new water tube and she's running sweeeeeeeeeeet!

Always great to hear exactly what the fix to the problem was, even if it wasn't a thread I participated in! Lots of folks never post back what the solution to their problem was and it's hard for others to tell what might be their fix, as well. Thanks for posting back!
Great to hear you got yours running good again!:)
