Volvo AQ131D with 275 outdrive:
Don S had mentioned that sometimes you gotta jam a screwdriver up in the hole to clean out the plug.

So I went out and unscrewed the plug and of course nothing came out.

I didn't have a screwdriver but my post office box key worked good.

But I did not get rust, I got pure black soot, clean soot.......no rust whatsoever.

The water that came out, about 1 pint (Unplug your manifolds!) was clean......

What's this sound like? I'm still going to replace the manifold this winter, and with the compression check I've hopefully ensured no damage has come to cylinder #4 through corrosion....

Anyway is this a good sign? I'm thinking it was running rich or something or maybe the previous owner just never took it out.....or maybe he did and that's why it's clean.

That was a lot of water that came out - thanks guys - I would not have known to do that!

No rust is a good thing...Your compression #'s are good....By pulling the manifold, you can see the valves & any rust if there is any...If you don't know the age of the manifold, replace it....Salt water eats 'em quick...JK

Turns out the meter on the compression guage was wrong, I'm running 150lbs per cylinder, but still respectable for a 4 cylinder...180 would have been super nice :D
