Engine: Mercruiser 228R Serial #6726322
This engine is installed in a 1984 Sea Ray 210SRV. It has 690 hours. The exhaust manifolds were replaced in 2006 with non-OEM parts right before I bought the boat. I replaced the thermostat last fall with an OEM part set to 142 degrees. The impeller was replaced this spring.
The engine temps are normal at all throttle settings.
A friend is concerned with the temperature of the exhaust manifolds. Measured with an infrared thermometer at mid-range throttle settings, I'm seeing 150-180 F (depending on where the thermometer is aimed) on the manifolds and 115-125 F on the elbows. I have been unable to find any published information on temperature limits. Are these temps normal? I've asked local experts and the opinions vary wildly, even among the Merc authorized shops.
