Hey guys, I have a 1983 mercruiser 260 i just finshed a rebuild on. took her out to the lake last sunday, and everything seemed to be going good , but then i saw smoke coming out the engine compartment. freaked me out so i open the bay and see water coming out the hose coupler that is coming out of the exhaust. Looks like it just corroded and cracked. when i got it home it broke apart real easy. looked like the riser gasket was leaking also. will some gasket silicone work in that area? and where can I get that coupler or what it is called? I guess the smoke was just steam from water hitting the block.

Re: Exhaust Parts

Go to mercruiserparts.com, and use the proper name for the parts. That helps.
Also, riser (usually should be called elbows) need a good gasket, to prevent water from potentially leaking back into the cylinders via exhaust valve. You definitely DON'T want to do bandaid fixes with exhaust elbow or riser gaskets. Use the Mercruiser gaskets.....they're Grafoil.
