so i just read another post here about a different boat and it made me wonder about my boat. i have a wellcraft with a merc 470with the closed cooling. runs great, no overheating, brand new sea water pump and housing and inlet lines. heres my question. when looking at the back of the boat with it running on the muffs i have alot of water coming out of the exhaust hole on the right of the outdrive, and only a spray coming from the left hole. is this normal? boat runs good, water on the right is hot so i know its working. just not sue if it is supposed to be even... thanks for your help you guys truly are the best

Re: exhaust question

....same engine here, just in a V 20.
The two ports that you are referred to vent from a common cavity. Imbalance in their discharge is just a nature of the beast. Mine, too, exhaust more from the starboard than the port. Perhaps the single exhaust from the 3.7 forces more discharge to the starboard. The only time you will even think about this is when running on muffs !!!
If my memory is correct, I believe Don S. suggested that the relief ports are there to reduce backpressure when NOT underway.

FWIW...Ed in 'ol Virginny

Re: exhaust question

Yep, just relief ports. Completely normal for more water to come out one side than the other. That even happens on V8s and V6s.
