Some guy at work is telling me I should change the riser gaskets seeing as I know the motor overheated. I have been reading a lot and see nothing on this. He says it might allow water into the motor after an overheat. Is this a concern or not. 2000 5.0 GL PEFS.

Ayuh,.... Yer more apt to burn up all the rubber parts in the exhaust flows, or blow a head gasket with an overheat,....
But,....
Anything is possible,... though I ain't seen it,....

Rubber seems to all be good. It never got above 200?. Well, not since I've owned it. Glad to hear you ain't heard it, that means I get to do a lake test tomorrow if'n the weather permits!

Very common on Volvo. They have updated the riser gaskets twice and have a service bulletin on it.
I don't think you have much to worry about at 200 degrees. It mainly happens when a impeller fails completely. A quick test of how hot the exhaust system got is to try and tighten the 16 hose clamps on the rubber hoses ---- if they are loose by more than a turn and a half, it's good to look a little closer.
