Exhaust riser gasket question

I am about to bolt everything together on the 898 (now center risers) and I notice there are two different styles of gaskets used on the manofold to riser joints. One is completely open on all four sides, the other has two small weep holes on two sides instead (the ones that came with the manifolds). Is there a particular style I SHOULD use versus what I have? It would seem to me that if I use the weep hole gaskets that less water would be entering the exhaust system. I am using 3" riser spacers also.

Re: Exhaust riser gasket question

stick with what you got. the gaskets with the weep holes are restictor gaskets. if you use gaskets that are designed with your set up you can run into over heating, over cooling or possibly water in the cyliners

Ok, so these gaskets actually help to prevent water from entering the cylinders? Not sure how they would do this though as the same amount of water is in both sides of the riser, right?

It has to do with if you have raw or closed cooling.I went to center rise manifolds and used the weep hole gaskets,I have raw water cooling. The way it was explained to me those holes allow air to escape so the whole manifold/riser will fill upwith water.Which type of cooling do you have

I have raw water cooling. Now that makes sense. Is there a certain position the weep holes have to be placed for them to work properly?
