1983 Sea Ray with 228hp engine. Noticed a rather decent difference in temps of exhaust elbows after running a bit. Took elbows off and it had the restricted gaskets on it. One port (the small singe hole) of one gasket was totally plugged with rust. I cleaned everything up real well and ready for reassembly.
My question is: Can I/should I use the open port elbow gaskets? Or stick with the restricted?
My thinking...open ports, more water flow, cooler temps. Cooler is better? Yes/No?

Thanks

ive never heard of that before, but put what it calls for, because that may change the pressure, and water flow too fast, but yeah more water flow does sound better.

Need to know how the hoses are laid out on your engine... Have a serial number?

That engine requires restrictor gaskets in between the manifold and the elbow. They are required to get the water flow to run correctly.

The correct gasket looks like this....

N the slots are on the sides, with the little round holes fore & aft. Clean off the mating surfaces with a scraper, make sure they are flat. The bolts only need 25 foot lbs. Don't go all gorilla on the bolts.
