I have a 92 Force 120 on my 18 ft Bayliner Capri. When I purchaced the boat the engine didn't have the exhaust snout. I bought one and installed it. My question is: Exactly what does the snout do? Did it or would it damage the engine if it was run without it? Seems like it would to me. The prop would splash too much water into the opening and increase back pressure, expecially at high RPMs.

Re: Exhaust snout

I doubt that running the motor without the snout would do any harm to the motor. It servers two purposes.

1. Direct the exhaust away from the prop to maximize prop efficiency.

2. Provide some directional control to offset the torque created by the spinning prop. If you notice, it can be adjusted to point left or right. Ideally, when your steering wheel is pointed straight, the boat should track straight. If it pulls to one direction, you can adjust it to compensate for the pull.

Re: Exhaust snout

PNW is right put the snout on and go for a ride.Get on plane and let the wheel loose,if it pulls to the right the snout needs to be turned to the right. To the left then turn it left.
It wont hurt the motor if it was ran without it.J
