Have a 1997 5.7L Mercruiser that after sitting a few days, belches out a black Spooge when it first fires up.It doesn't look like engine oil because it has no rainbow color when floating on the surface. It is jet black carbon looking and there is a lot of it. It will float together for a long time. It will also attach itself to the hull and is very hard to get off. The engine has always run very well but this season when it first starts it does seem that maybe the choke has fallen out of adjustment because it idles like its loaded up. As soon as I get out of the channel and into the lake to throttle up it clears up a runs perfect all day with no Spooge coming out on restarts.I really don't think the choke would be the reason for the Spooge since the previous time out we had about three hours of constant 3500 - 3700 rpms which I would think would burn out any build up, but I don't know. Any suggestions ? Oh, also, the motor does not use any oil.

lots of carbon from a faulty choke setting but as far as Spooge have no clue.

That's not spooge, Spooge is the lubricant used to get tires onto wheels. Sheesh, don't start taking my made up words.
As far as that black crap that comes out of your motor when it's cold and sticks on your boat, it is carbon, a byproduct of incomplete combustion. Set up your carburetor choke, idle speed and main jet mixture screws.
The mixture screws require a special tool, I got mine at Amazon for about $12. Search carburetor adjusting tool. I think it's a KN tool.
I usually "help" my choke coil pull the choke off to let my motor run a little more smoothly on warm ups.
